ALL-NATURAL PAGEANT

Good grace, good grades – good eye contact

Lansing girl earns ambassador honor in pageant

By Teena Barber, Submitted to the Times

The look on her face was one of anticipation.  Not knowing what was coming next almost overwhelmed her.  Her first pageant experience had been outstanding.  No glitz and glam.  No fake tan or make-up inappropriate for her young age.  Just a pageant focused on the virtues of Good Grace, Good Grades and Good Eye Contact.  An all natural pageant, showcasing her natural beauty, the beauty of her young compassionate heart.

“And now for our Ambassador award.  Presented to the precious child that gave of herself to help our Pageant cause.  She did so because this charity is close to her heart and her family since her cousin Perry spent some time being healed at Children’s Mercy,” the pageant producer announced.  The moment she heard the name Perry she knew, and the smile that enveloped her face was unbelievably precious.  “Heide Barber, age 9, from Lansing, Kansas is our “Little Miss Precious Ambassador” today”, said Linda Badami.  Once on the stage being presented with the Ambassador Butterfly award by “Miss Kansas Essence”, Heide was asked to stay where she was because that was only the beginning.  Linda went on to recognize Heide as the winner of the “Highest Grades Competition” and furthermore as the “2010 Patriotic Precious Little Miss” ages 8-10 years.

The genuine smile, happiness, excitement and pride were incredible.  Even more so when they began to announce the Ultimate Supreme Winner, which was Heide’s new friend Olivia from Overland Park.  They had only met Saturday, yet became instant friends, a testament to the purpose of this all natural beginners pageant and these two special girls.  The Little Miss Precious Patriotic Pageant being Heide’s first and Olivia’s second ever pageant, made it even more exciting for both of them.

Ever wonder what it feels like to be a pageant Mom?  I found out first hand Saturday when my wonderful 9 year old daughter, Heide, decided to compete in the Little Miss Precious KS/MO Patriotic Pageant.  What an incredible, uplifting experience.  “Little Miss Precious KS/MO” pageants are ALL NATURAL and focus on the beauty within.  This beginners pageant for girls focuses on improving self-confidence, communications skills, speaking in an articulate fashion, the importance of a sincere smile and the power of eye contact when addressing others.  Never thought I’d be a pageant Mom, but that day I was so proud of the poise and grace Heide demonstrated from the moment we arrived, during the interview, all the way through thanking the judges after the pageant ended.  She was unbelievably nervous, but then her inner beauty and smile shown through the jitters and made me the proudest Mom in the room.

The little ones that competed first were adorable, but it was the older girls that made the decision to enter this genuine pageant the right thing to do.  The pageant producers say, “A Little Miss Precious winner is a well rounded, confident, sweet, polite, charming and adorable little girl that is simply – Precious.”  And Saturday I shared my little misses precious with the Kansas / Missouri Pageant world and am thankful I did.

Of course such endeavors start a whole new desire to continue to showcase natural beauty, that which is inside- the beauty of the heart, not just the physical.  Therefore, Heide will be competing in the next Little Miss Precious Pageant on August 7th.  “The End of Summer Pageant!”  with a Sun Dress of Choice Theme, will be a great way to let Heide continue to grow confidence, poise, and build new friendships.  If you may be interested in letting your beautiful little Midwestern girls, ages newborn to 17 years express their inner beauty, explore the website at http://www.misspreciousksmo.com.  A great way to end the summer and build confidence before the school year begins.
